Breakout Saint John is an entertainment and team-building company located in Saint John New Brunswick featuring themed escape room games. We opened our doors in December 2015 with 2 rooms and have grown to now offer multiple on-site escape games, portable options including mini-games, large group games for 100+ people, and an app-based outdoor clue hunt in Uptown Saint John.

An escape room is a real-life game where teams of players work together to find clues, solve puzzles, and ultimately escape the room or complete a challenge within 60 minutes. We have rooms with varying themes, so if escaping sounds a bit scary to you, feel free to try one of our family-friendly games where you are trying to find a lost pirate treasure or win a million dollars!

You can book with us online or over the phone. Once you have decided which room you’d like to play, you can go to our Book Now page to see availability. You can book a game directly through our website. We will require a $28 deposit in order to secure a booking. We accept cash, debit and credit on-site. If you are looking for a same day booking, please check our Book Now page or call us at (506) 643-8688 to see if we have any walk-in availability for that day.

Each room has a difficulty level out of 5, although you can choose to make it easier by asking for hints if you get stuck. Escape rooms are designed to be challenging so every team may not escape. If your team doesn’t escape in the allotted time, you can choose to come back and try again or our Gamemaster will walk you through the rest of the game.

You are never alone at Breakout Saint John! Our staff monitor all rooms using cameras to ensure you are never stuck on a puzzle for too long. You are welcome to request a hint at any time if you are struggling to figure out what to do next.

Anyone can enjoy Breakout! Grab your friends, family members, or co-workers. It’s great for corporate team building, private events, youth groups, bachelor/bachelorettes, birthday parties …. anytime you want to get together with some people and have a fun and immersive experience together.

We sure do! There are some restrictions in place currently due to COVID-19, but you can check out our Parties & Special Events page for more information.

Our rooms are always safe. All rooms have emergency exits and are monitored by staff at all times. We do have a couple of scary rooms and others that are not scary at all. You can read the room descriptions to find out more. If you have any questions about a specific room, please give us a call at 643-8688 (6-GETOUT). Our scarier rooms are rated by age as either 13+ or 16+. Teens younger than the specified age cannot play those games unless accompanied by their guardian/parent.

Each of our games has a maximum amount of players per booking (normally maximum 8 unless otherwise stated). Some rooms also have a minimum, which would be because it is impossible to play with less than that amount of people. Please see the Rooms page for more details about each game.

The ideal age range for most of our games is 14+ due to puzzle difficulty. However, we have groups of children ages 10+ play our rooms and just require more hints and guidance from our hosts. Escape Rooms can be a great family activity. Many puzzles will be too difficult for children to solve on their own but kids can be great helpers and searchers and love seeing what comes next! We have age ratings for our more scary rooms that prohibit certain ages from participating. We ask an adult to stay onsite for any group of children under 15.

Please Note: We do not allow children under the age of 5 in any of our current games.

You don’t need to worry about feeling claustrophobic. All of our rooms are a good size and you can choose to leave at any point if you start to feel uncomfortable. You are never actually locked in and many of our themes do not even have the illusion of being locked in. Instead of escaping, you can look for lost treasure or try and win a million dollars. Escape room themes are endless and many have nothing to do with actually needing to “break out”.

Our regular adult price is $32 taxes included per person for a group of 2 or $28.75 per person for a group of 4 or more. We also have other specials and incentives on our social media pages so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram! We currently have a reduced rate of $23 (taxes incl.) for youth ages 6-15, as well as a family discount for families of up to 5 (available for families that live together and consist of up to 2 adults and 2-3 dependent youth).

**We regret to inform that, due to increased number of no-shows, we are now requiring a minimum deposit of $28.75 to secure a booking. Thank you for understanding.

Currently we are open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00AM-11:00PM. However, escape rooms are a book-in-advance type activity. Please visit our Book Now page to see game availability.

We also do private bookings through the week outside our normal hours. Please contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in a private event or corporate team building. We also have portable and virtual event offerings for corporate team building. We will work with you to accommodate your group’s needs.

Please allow for 75 minutes from start to finish. This gives us time to brief you on your game and provide a walk through/debriefing afterward if you so choose. The actual game component is for 60 minutes, unless you break out before time runs out! Briefing will begin promptly at the scheduled start time so please do not be late. This is to ensure the room is ready for the next group coming in. We recommend arriving about 10-15 minutes before your scheduled game. We also ask that you bring your cellphone with you as we use QR codes to speed up our check-in process.

Yes, we change our themes and puzzles up periodically. We have space onsite for 5 rooms in our current location, so check back often and follow us on your preferred social media platform to find out about new rooms, puzzle and theme changes.

Please bring an ID with you so we can confirm your booking.

You may change or cancel your booking up to 48 hours prior to your booking start time. To do so, please email us at [email protected]. Please ensure you notify us as soon as possible, as receiving too many last minute cancellations will mean we may need to start to take non-refundable deposits. No, you don’t need to be a genius to solve the puzzles in our rooms, but you will need to use your brain. No matter what your personality, you’ll love our games! We’ve created a variety of puzzles so everyone will find something they enjoy. Each room contains unique puzzles and you will need to use different skills to solve them. Each player brings their own strengths to the team! Your task is to use the items in the room to find clues and figure out how they work together to decode, unlock and solve your way out of the room. Anything in the room could be a piece to a puzzle.

All of our bookings are private bookings with only your group in the room you’ve reserved. We’ve done our best to space out reservation times so that isn’t more than one group in the lobby at the same time. All rooms are sanitized between groups. Hand sanitizer are provided at our front desk.

If you or any of your party are showing COVID symptoms, we ask that you call to cancel the booking.

As of March 14th, 2022, we will no longer require masks in our rooms or lobby.
